Materials Selection Assistance
ACI Studios produces parts using a variety of different materials, each selected for their different properties and the needs of the specific application. We’re here to assist you in selecting elements that offer the best value and long-lasting durability. With all applications, the materials are fully engineered for loading, seismic, flame-rate, and attachment specifications.
GFRC- Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete Used to duplicate cast stone, natural carved stone, and glazed terra cotta. A versatile material, it can be painted, or custom tinted with integral pigments and specialty sands to perfectly match a broad range of finishes. Our most durable and long-wearing option. Composed of type I portland cement, industrial quartz sand, and reinforced with 2% glass fibers, it can be cast or laminated.

PGRG- Polymer-modified Glass Reinforced Gypsum Like GFRC, PGRG can be used to replicate a wide range of part types, yet is lighter and easier to handle, transport, and install, composed of gypsum (plaster) in an acrylic medium, laminated with continuous fiberglass mat. Parts made of PGRG can exhibit very fine detail. Suitable for exterior applications with proper finishing.

FRP- Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Composed of epoxy resin and continuous strand woven fiberglass, FRP is ideal when both extremely fine detail and strength are required. Excellent for duplicating cast iron or zinc, sheet metal, or any thin, carved ornamentation. Highly stable and durable, FRP is suitable for interior or exterior applications.

GRG- Glass Reinforced Gypsum A more traditional material, GRG is commonly used to produce column covers, light coves, archways, boxed ceilings, and other interior decorative molding elements. Non-polymerized, it integrates easily with all conventional plaster and drywall construction methods. Lightweight and easy to produce, GRG is adaptable to many kinds of designs.

Cast (rigid) resin Very small parts or parts with thin sections can be solid cast using urethane or epoxy resins, with or without internal reinforcement, as needed. Ideal for finials, floral elements, or other discreet details.
